The function of type (1922)
In 1922, Benjamin Sherbow, a "consultant in Typography" and the author of Making Type Work and Sherbow's Type Charts, self-published Effective Type-use for Advertising. This was six years before W.A. Dwiggins's Layout in Advertising and Jan Tschichold's Die Neue Typographie, the two leading books on type use. Sherbow's book is credited by "designers," art directors, and type directors of the era for being a no-nonsense guide through the rights and wrongs of typographic text and display.

One man, 100,000 toothpicks
Scott Weaver has spent 35 years developing this complex, kinetic sculpture based on San Francisco. He continues to modify and expand Rolling through the Bay even today. The elaborate sculpture is comprised of multiple “tours” that move pingpong balls through neighborhoods, historical locations, and iconic sights from the city on the bay.
"I have used different brands of toothpicks depending on what I am building. I also have many friends and family members that collect toothpicks in their travels for me. For example, some of the trees in Golden Gate Park are made from toothpicks from Kenya, Morocco, Spain, West Germany and Italy. The heart inside the Palace of Fine Arts is made out of toothpicks people threw at our wedding."
Transportable
How's this for a holiday home?
The Whangapoua Sled House is a clever little portable beach hut designed by Crosson Clarke Carnachan Architects. The hut is situated on the shore of an idyllic white sanded beach in New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula

We spent last Friday morning throwing mud at our model in 0 degrees, all in the name of art... (And she still managed to smile.)
Thanks Rochelle. You're a star!

Harriet White
We met Harriet White when she came out to Australia on a short term working visa a few years back. She spent her time here cheerfully working as a gardener.
Who would have thought she was hiding such an amazing talent?
